No Doubt kick off their first tour in more than five
years on May 5, at New Jersey’s Bamboozle Festival (see all tour
dates). To get the inside details on what fans can expect from the
longtime Orange County hitmakers, we sat down with them recently in Los
Angeles:
Don’t Call it a Reunion
Drummer Adrian Young wants to clarify something. “I feel like
everywhere I look people are saying, Oh Blink-182 is getting back
together and Jane’s Addiction is getting together and No Doubt is
getting back together. As far as I know, those other guys broke up. We
never did. It’s frustrating to keep hearing that.”
And the Survey Says?
Because they haven’t played live in five years, the band were curious
to know what songs their audience wanted to hear. A survey on their
website provided the answer. “I
was totally surprised the fans said their favorite song was ‘Sunday
Morning’ [from 1995's Tragic Kingdom,]” says bassist Tony Kanal. “I
thought that would be up there, but I wasn’t expecting it to be number
one.” What was he expecting? “‘Don’t Speak’ or something from Rock
Steady.”
Ain’t No Hollaback
Don’t plan to hear Gwen Stefani’s solo hits on this tour. A No Doubt
concert “isn’t the time or place for those songs,” says Stefani. “No
one asked for No Doubt songs on my [solo] tour and no one will ask for
my songs on a No Doubt tour.” Love. Angel. Music. Baby. fans have
reason for hope, though. The singer says she “might be singing
‘Hollaback Girl’ somewhere else someday.” She wouldn’t be specific, but
we’re hoping one spot is the karaoke bar a block from our office.

Fans who purchase a top-tier ticket online for one of the No Doubt’s
upcoming shows can download the band’s entire digital catalogue — free.
Sales ploy? Sure. But as Kanal explains, there was also another
motivation: “We’re going to have a lot of Gwen’s fans at the shows, as
well as people who have never seen No Doubt before. We wanted to make
sure they know our music.”

Tom talks about how No Doubt picked the opening acts, and how Paramore
reminds them of them back in the day. He said that it’s hard chosing
opening bands that fans would like cause the fans have a very broad
taste in music. No Doubt realized that the fans love other bands with
female lead singers after the Rock Steady
tour. The interviewer asked if we plan on seeing an upcoming
collaboration with Paramore on the tour. It’s still undecided if the
band will play new material on the new tour, but he talks about how on
the 2004 Singles tour it wasn’t their show so it was hard to play
deeper cuts from stuff. Tom reveals that the upcoming album
will sound like a mix of the past albums, but a very strong ska sound
will be coming out of it — also the rock feeling from the Tragic Kingdom era.
He talks again how Gwen was the one who came up with the Clockwork
Orange theme. Gwen has been getting into the 60s space-age set for the
tour, and they have been noticing that tours have been more successful
with a theme. The idea behind of getting the catalog for free is
because they thought it would be a sweet deal, but it’s not available
for the lawn tickets because of the liscensing for them.
The band has some-sort of a setlist put together, but it was nice to
see some of the songs people wanted to hear in the survey. He does say
that the setlist might vary from night to night, but the staples will
be there.
Tom also reveals that the band will probably be hitting the
Jimmy Kimmel show closer to the tour for promtion, along with the
Gossip Girls performance. Tom says that “Stand and Deliver” turned out really, really good and is super excited for us to hear it.

Juste pour rebondir dessus:
C'est vrai que moi je m'attend aussi a ce qu'il y ai pleins de fans/voire groupies de gwen pour les concerts de cette été ou les prochains mais bon moi sa me choque que des gens achètent des places juste pour voir Gwen sans même avoir réellement écouter No Doubt (C'est gentil de donner leurs chansons à télécharger mais les fans de No Doubt doivent quand meme les connaitre quoi)
Je sais pas si il y aura ce genre de personnes mais bon, on voit l'interet du groupe à s'ouvrir plus aux nouvelles génération lol

Nouvelle news de beacon-street.net :
Gwen’s so cute, she refers to Zuma as a “sweet chunky little boy.” She
thinks that Zuma is really easy, but King has really big opinions. The
band members plan on taking all the kids to zoos around the country
(wonder if we could run into all of them!) Gwen says that she gained a
lot more baby weight with Zuma than King, but of course she wouldn’t
reveal more than that…why would she? Anyways, she says that all of the
Mark Squires photos were taken right after The Sweet Escape
tour before she got pregnant with Zuma. The DJ reads Gwen an email that
a fan named their baby Zuma after Gwen’s, and she reveals that Tom was
actually the one who came up with it (as an option for Rio!) They joke
around with Gwen after she says that he was named after Zuma beach in
California if he was conceived on the beach…yikes! She wanted a quirky
name for him…and she got it!
